the Tenth Amendment Enforcement Act of 1998

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Finally somebody stood up for the Constitution of the US. I just received this e-mail from Senator Paul Coverdell, R, GA. It seems like his is strongly opposed to EO 13083, and he introduced the legislature to counteract it. Below is his message to me. I would urge all of you to contact your senators and demand their support for Sen. Coverdell in his efforts of fighting EO 13083. My hat goes off to Senator Coverdell. We actually still have some honest GOP!!!

Dear Mr. SMB:

Thank you for contacting my office regarding some provisions of the 1996 Illegal Immigration Act and Executive Order number 13083 issued by the President. Your comments are greatly appreciated. I share your concerns regarding the identification system portion of the Immigration Act. While the government's ability to track illegal immigrants is extremely important, at present I am not convinced that assigning a "number" to each American citizen and creating another bureaucracy to monitor the proposed program is the direction we want to go -- either from the standpoint of privacy concerns, or from the standpoint of placing additional burdens on employers and employees. We must maintain control over our borders, but we must also be careful not to infringe on the liberties of law-abiding citizens. In response to the President's Executive Order on Federalism, I have introduced S. 2250, the Tenth Amendment Enforcement Act of 1998. This bill would preclude the President from enacting measures that run counter to the Constitution by fiat, and reinforces Congress' role as primary lawmaker. Rest assured that I will encourage my colleagues to support this important measure for protecting our Constitution. Once again, thank you for writing. I am including a brief outline of the act I have introduced. If you have any further questions or comments, please contact Tad Furtado in our Washington office at 202-224-4813.

Sincerely,

Paul D. Coverdell United States Senator

The legislation being introduced by Sen. Coverdell and Rep. Bob Barr will offset the Clintonistas plan. I hope it can get passed with enough margin to veto proof it. Also, Sen. Max Cleland, Ga(D) gave lip service support opposing EO13083.
