I see no evidence that customer service, or brand recognition, or sales channels are any easier to develop than technology. All these and more are required for a company to be successful. Assembled PC's themselves are a commodity, so the technology strengths/weaknesses of DELL are largely irrelevant. In fact, CSCO seems to follow a model where they just *buy* the technology--that's easy to do! You don't even need a screwdriver, just a cheque-book.

The interesting debate is whether networking gear will become a true commodity, and if so, whether CSCO can maintain leadership with it's non-technology assets. My bet would be the answers are Yes and Yes.
