Check the Symantec site for information and a fix.

Robert,

The virus in question is called "Win32/CIH". This is a fairly nasty
virus that just became known recently. This one is doubly lethal in
that it not only destroys the partitioning information on your hard
disk but also has the capability to damage the flash BIOS on some
systems. If the BIOS is re-flashed then they must be replaced. Since
most are soldered on the motherboard you are looking at a fairly
timeconsuming and expensive task.

The virus infects executable files (EXE). If you have downloading
any from the net, you are at risk. There are four known variants
of this virus. Two strike on April 26th, one on June 26th, and the
last on the 26th of any month.

At UT we have advised our faculty, staff and students to either
get a virus protection program and run it prior to the 26th or
do not use the system AT ALL on the 26th (power it off).

There are several virus programs that can find and eradicate this
virus. One we have used is Dr. Solomons. Beware! You must have the
very latest release (in the last week) of these programs. If you
should have Dr. Solomons, they have an extra virus driver available
for download on their web page. Other vendors have additions to
their virus dictionaries available also.
