Intriguing article, Gus. Geist left out the need for analgesics and antacids, but why quibble.
In retrospect .......Briefly. Don't want to gnaw the bones of this investment bare ...... "we" were not completely fools, as foolish as many of us feel now. When purchased, AXC had solid profits, promising litigations, an excellent royalty stream, a boatload of patents- which with the high R&D investment seemed to promise positive surprises by the way of new digital products over time. A superb 19mm line that had grown briskly in sales ( albeit from a low level), and the KM wildcard ...a product that made economic sense in an industry with tight margins. It was tough to predict that events would conspire to bring some degree of failure on all fronts in a 3 year period. And though the stock price multiplied by 5 in the one year surge from the pinks to the AMEX ....the valuation never began to reach the zany levels of many small promising tech stocks. Personally I would say my most serious lapse was not selling at the point that DST sales had stalled ...Maxtor was not going to employ KM ...and the litigation success had been overturned. ( 5 to 6 range). The underpinnings had fallen out and clearly the stock could go to the low 2s if KM did not sell - of course it has fallen even farther than that. But the Samsung deal and a drivemaker testing KM samples suggested that KM might bring revenues after all in '98 ...and believe me if that had happened the price would be several times now what it is.
We inhabit a new territory with today's AXC .....very new approach. And to those buying right now I would simply say that this may well turn out to be a very fine to spectacular investment, but it almost certainly will take some serious time - several years- to bear out to a pronounced degree. ( Not that it can't go higher - or lower- in the meantime). Risks ( moderated in my opinion by the likelihood that they could indeed find a buyer now in the 4.25 to 4.75 range) and potential here...but long term.

Gus, good article, can relate to Geist's articulations...

<<Intriguing article, Gus. Geist left out the need for analgesics and antacids, but why quibble. >>

And Gus, you don't need bandages for this procipine. CORTARIZE, CORTARIZE, CORTARIZE!! Long term AMPEX shareholders keep hot pokers handy, along with Cuban cigars, bottles of White lightning Tennesse corn whiskey, fistfuls of dollars, fast cars, etc. to distract ourselves from the "Geist" like humiliation each 10Q...like the time my inner child was crushed when someone "significant" said "No AMPEX, you can not have a Keeper Media contract in this millenium..."

Let's hope Jubimer's opinion is a good one. And the great find some posted on the Mistu trial. Our research and reading is good for intellectual distraction and education while we wait, and wait, and wait....

I am committed until "Cousin Eddie" "NUMBERS" or the "SALESMAN" fold their hands. What was that you said Dr. Geist?

Anyway, Gus thanks for your alternatives to research and invest in.
