I was praying someone, anyone would win that Powerball jackpot. The town I live in is the first town on the Connecticut side of the border with New York. It seems like half of New York, New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania are on line waiting for tickets. The lines for Powerball tickets are in excess of five hours. I went out to get the newspapers and gas Saturday morning at 5 am and there were already thousands of people waiting on lines. The reason I went out that early was all the gas stations sell tickets and were jammed with cars of people getting tickets and I hadn't been able to get any gas for days. At 5 am I still had to go to my third choice. Absolutely incredible. As of this morning two of the stastions have stopped selling tickets all together. They have to sell a certain amount of gas to maintain their franchise and they were on the verge of losing their businesses. One of them told me this morning he was getting death threats from people on line. Any merchant near a Powerball site is losing a tremendous amount of business as no one can get near them. The highways have been a problem as well with multi hour delays. The amazing thing is that if you drive to the next town on 95 the traffic clears up and there are no lines for tickets. Friday afternoon was particularly amazing. Not only was there all the Powerball traffic but it was a Friday afternoon in the summer so the half of NYC not on line for tickets was on it's way out of town for the weekend. Then just to make things perfect Metro North (commuter trains) finds a package on a train that they think is a bomb and shut down all trains in both directions. Incredible.

It really is pretty funny. Particularly watching the interactions between your average Greenwich resident and the Powerball adicts. I have a friend who works out at the gym the same times I do. She is a very mild mannered women in her late fifties who has spent her entire life in working for the church. It was all we could to to restrain her from taking her car and driving it up on the sidewalk. Amazing. We all thought it was just a one time event last May, but this is worse and going on for weeks. Pray for us and pray for a winner :) Every time the jackpot grows it just gets worse around here.

Oh and fwiw even bulletin board investors are not this nuts.
