<<before ammortization & merger costs>>I agree with you on the amortization. Merger costs however are like the costs of laying a bunch of staff off. It is a one time thing and not something that will occur year after year. Therefore ignore it for year to year comparisons and determining how a company is doing.

Amortization however spans many years and MUST be considered.

But what is the break down between the two numbers?
