Hello Derek,

>Hi Scott, noticed your from Heber, nice area!

Yep ... watching a great sunset over Timp right now ... beautiful night! ;-)

I have to admit that I am blown away by the lack of marketing by TCI. My sister lives in Pleasanton, CA and doesn't know if she ever received a notice that she could get a cable modem. My parents just bought a house in San Ramon and likewise had no idea! Only because I have a friend in Pleasanton that is a techy did I find out about the service ... that is all over that area!

The contact that i have had with TCI lately has been exploring alternative access for friends here in Salt Lake City. The DSL rollout by US West is a joke ... like I previously posted (and I think you found out) trying to get it is really hit and miss. We have been bugging TCI lately and building the contacts on how to push.

Up here in Heber City I can't even get cable! DSL is out ... so I bought a frame-relay T1. ;-) I recently moved it to an office here in town, so I'm experimenting with wireless (150kbps) from my house to the T1 ...

Derek, TCI is building a DWDM system for ATHM network in Dallas as we speak,if you follow the suppliers you find out the cities(ANTC,HLIT,CHNL). They built two DWDM systems in Washington State for ATHM.I believe TCI is responding to Tacoma Utilities and Seattle pressuring them. The only way TCI will move is if forced to do so. I will lay money on Chicago being another destination that they cannot afford to give up. The problem with Chicago,is the logistics, and architecture employed to build a network there are enormous, but the rewards are large also.
Frank, ATM has limitations with header space, why not run IP directly over optical level zero, and remove the ATM?
You know me,always leaning toward passive optical networking.
