EPS shows you close to nothing. You can't spend EPS, and neither can MSFT, therefore it is useless to guage growth in EPS. Growth in revenue, cash, and economic cash flow have been strong. These are things that are tangible and can be spent by the company and distributed to shareholders.

David,

>Putting these recent actuals together with the forecasts (and MSFT is normally very close to the consensus) we can see a very marked and continuing growth slow down from the very rapid growth of 95-6 and 96-7.

As I know, MSFT changed its accounting on 1995 to shift some revenue as defer, so you may see slowdown in eps, but if you put back all the defer earning, then you will see another story. By the way, if MSFT can grow around 25% in the next 10 years, we will get around 1000% for return, so if I pay a little bit more now, and get huge return later, why not.

David,

From your data, we can see that MSFT grew very fast in 1996 and 1997 , this probably due to the release of win95.
This year's data is still under forecast, and this year, win98 was released which will
have the same effect as win95 , and the customer base is much larger than the time when win 95 is released.
So, based on the previous data before 1998, we see strong growth for MSFT, and 1998 1999 are still forecasts. So, why did you say based on previous performance ,
MSFT has slowed down quite a lot ? Actually, MSFT's growth was accelerated quite a lot !!!
