Every child should be given a firearms safety coarse. Better to instill a healthy respect for guns than an irrational phobia.

All gun " enthusiasts " should be so responsible.

BTW, while in my early teens, I was a member of the Junior NRA ( or whatever they called it at that time ); I was an excellent marksman with a rifle ( no clue now as to what kind of rifle it was---oh yeah, it had a bolt action ; I think it probably was a .22 ). I recall being in some junior competitions and coming in 2nd alot of times. Without my knowledge my older brother signed me up and one day I rec'd my membership card in the mail. It was embossed in gold, the insignia was cool, and I got a fancy certificate to boot. Felt as proud as a peacock. I also recall going out into the woods and abandoned farm land tracts with my bro and his buddies; we would shoot at cans, squirrels, etc. with Lucky Strikes dangling out of the corner of our mouths, and boxes of ammo weighing heavy in our pockets.

In retrospect I'm wondering what the hell we were doing running around the countryside with all these guns and how were we allowed to have them? Has nothing changed since then? From what's happened in the south lately and this latest eruption in DC, it looks like not much.
