You can't short net stocks on just any old up day, you have to short them after they have about 6 or 7 in a row! Also, I think people hold their internet shorts too long. I bet some of the times that you shorted those net stocks you had a profit, but you let the trade turn against you. Sometimes you get out and it subsequently drops, but it prevents losses. Case in point: The last time I shorted YHOO was around 195. It dropped to 191-192 a few minutes later, but when it came back to my short price at 195 I got out because I didn't want to take a loss. I think it hit the 170's the next day. Missed out that go around but my strategy has allowed me to short YHOO and some other net stocks on several occasions without ever taking a loss. (I have been long YHOO far more than short though).
Puts on nets are just too expensive for my blood.
