Well you could guess that Apple told Gates to go fly a kite, but it would be just a guess. All of the players have insider knowledge of what will be. We don't. It is conceivable that there are technologies that have already changed the nature of what will happen. For all we know the insiders have decided that Java will become a standard and they have decided to wrest control from Sun. There could be many factors we don't know about, hardware design, software other techno breakthroughs... In addition, when Jobs sits down with Gates, Jobs knows things that Gates doesn't and visa versa.

Don't put any $ on the idea that Apple has not made some bad compromises with Microsoft.
