Hi Dave, Jim B's TVR method can be industry or even stock specific. It works well in making that initial cash reserve guess.

That said, I got caught with my cash reserve being entirely inadequate last year when my gold fund fell on hard times. I've had to add cash several times to keep it afloat. Both Jim and I agreed that the cash reserve for a gold fund at the time could be less than a fixed 33% or what the Idiot Wave was suggesting. That's what we term as a "strewie!"

Market's unhappy again today, even with news that GM and UAW are nearing settlement for a bunch of plants.
