OT Gary,

How quickly you forget that Reagan's only recession occurred in 1981-2 when he cleaned up Carter's mess. I know you and I are out of school, but I hope history books don't see it the way you do. Clinton is the benefactor of the Reagan/Bush ability to thwart Soviet communism, probably much to Clinton's dismay. Bush's recession ended prior to the 92 election, but the media wouldn't admit it. Clinton entered office at the most opportune time anyone could have. kc

>>t took Clinton 2 years to fix what the Reagan era did.... :)
remember the late 80's were pretty screwed up...nasty recession - remember?

You have a very faulty memory. There was no recession in the late 1980's. The early 1990's recession was caused by the 1990 tax increase and the Gulf war. It was a brief interlude in the continuing Reagan Boom. By 1992 the economy was out of recession, well before Clinton ever assumed office.

In 1995 the Republican Congress forced Clinton to balance the budget which he had vigoriously resisted. And it was the Reagan Peace dividend - the happy consequence of the ending the Cold War - and the continuing economic growth rooted in tax and market reforms made during the Reagan era, that made that possible.
