John, let me see if I can enlighten you with a little post press release due diligence. Here is the press release and some answers to your questions:biz.yahoo.com Echelon Orders ALYA O.P.E.N.centrix System They have actually ordered ALYA system products which they will pay for installation in their own headquarters! PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 1998--ALYA International, Inc. (''ALYA'' or the ''Company'') announced today that the Echelon Corporation (Nasdaq:ELON - news) of Palo Alto, California has confirmed their intention to install ALYA's O.P.E.N.centrix access control and security system in Echelon's headquarters. ALYA's Advanced Security Management System is the first LonWorks based building automation system to be installed in Echelon's head office. Echelon has two buildings and they are putting in the Alya system in the first building first, to be followed by the second building. Echelon is installing Alya's security system for their head office buildings, not in a demo room. In fact, every access card for Echelon which the employees and visitors use will have Alya's name on them. This initial order will showcase the benefits of LonWorks and ALYA's security management system to the building automation and controls industry and Echelon's corporate visitors from all parts of the globe. There are some controls system showcased in the demo room but no security system in there. The showcasing of the system is nice but it's really the building order from Echelon that is by far more significant because it shows Echelon's belief and endorsement of Alya's system. Echelon is the creator of the neuron chip (currently manufactured by Motorola and Toshiba) for LonWorks technology and is a founding member of the LonMark Association. Echelon believes that the Lonworks network of open, interoperable products, properly implemented, can lower the cost of installing and operating building systems. Echelon's J. Rand Arnold, P.E. has stated that ''ALYA's use of Echelon's LonMark compliant transceivers and LonMaker for Windows network management software make the O.P.E.N.centrix system a key part of retrofitting Echelon's building with LonWorks' products.'' Echelon has completed an initial public offering of 5,000,000 shares at $7.00 per share through managing underwriters NationsBanc Montgomery, BancAmerica Robertson Stephens, and Volpe Brown Whelan & Company, and commenced trading on NASDAQ on July 28, 1998. ALYA International, Inc. ALYA's first product, O.P.E.N.cortex(tm) is a development platform based on these de facto standards directed to companies implementing applications for end users such as building management systems and process control applications. Echelon's buildings have been in existence for several years. I don't know the exact age. Apperently they have utilized a security system by Northern System prior to installing Alya system. Yes, Echelon is paying Alya for the system. This is a business order. Actually not only does Echelon recommend Alya to the building automation and controls industry and have Alya's products on Echelon's web site, but for them to install Alya system in their buildings is great endorsement indeed. ALYA's Advanced Security Management System is the first LonWorks based building automation system to be installed in Echelon's head office. Regards, Jeff
