Bob:

Your mention of your friends who become offended by your arguments that the pre-trib rapture is not Biblically sound doctrine points out the necessity of conducting this study based on scripture and not based on what we want the Bible to say. If God's Word said what I wanted it to say, I could think of a number of verses that would not be included as I would have a much easier time without them (like all of those sins which when committed in the heart are sins even though we don't physically commit them). However, God calls us to higher living and so His Word contains things that are difficult though necessary. So, too, will the end times be difficult even for (perhaps especially for) Christians.

In Christ, Tom

Sorry to interrupt. You said:

But I can't seem to get through to him that if what he says is true then Revelation is not a revelation at all but just a history book because the events he says fulfill the prophecies took place before the Revelation of John was written.

A revelation in and of itself does not have to be forever. Look closely at the scriptures :

(Rev 1:1-2 NIV) The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who testifies to everything he saw--that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Whose revelation was it? JESUS! when must the things take place? SOON!

I also have a friend who is into "kingdom now" which also opens him up to deception by the beast.

(Rev 1:4 NIV) John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father--to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

WHO was the revelation letter written to? WHY? because the Church is being persecuted.
WHO said "has MADE(past tense) us a kingdom and priests" ? King James says made "kings and preists"(well if you are a king, you have a kingdom as He does)

I will be the first to admit(which is to my shame), that I do not know all I want to about the revelation of Jesus Christ to John, but these first few verses are clear, so to say that your friend is wrong about the kingdom is to refute scripture. It is right there, clear as a bell. " has made us to be a kingdom"

Also the Church was under heavy persecution at the time this was written, probably around 95-95AD, from Domician(sp) who had statues around the kingdom of himself erected, that the people,as it ended up, were to worship. If the people did not worship him, what do you think happened?

I very highly recommend a book by RUBEL SHELLY called What the Book of Revelation says to the Church.
