When we want a list of up and down stocks, fractal dimensions may be useful.

Agreed. I like to buy stocks that go up in addition to those that just move up and down, but haven't had much luck lately.

How would you convert the typical open, high, low, close data found for stocks and mutual funds into a fractal rating?

Dave

Thanks Julius, I knew there was a reason I stopped taking math classes! Just couldn't remember what it was! :-)

I would guess that a high fractal value would reflect a better AIM stock, and wouldn't have to relate to market averages like BETA does. Value Line uses a statistic called Stock Price Stability, but I don't know how it's calculated. I'll check next time I'm at the library. Maybe it's a similar measure to Fractals.

This week's IDIOT WAVE AIM report is at

execpc.com

for everyone's review.

Best regards, Tom

Julius suggests that fractal dimension may be a different metric by which the attractor basin that is AIM might be measured. What an interesting concept. Those of you who might have visited my web site quiknet.com will have noticed that in one paper there, I fiddled with using evolutionary programming to tune AIM and found some room for improvement. I'm now somewhat motivated to take another look at that work. Any thoughts?

julius---welcome aboard.

thanks for sharing the information re fractals.

amazingly, i understood!!! what a scary thought.

good luck

s.k.

p.s. spent the ist week in may on the "garden island." really enjoyed the wailea area more than the very familiar to me kanapalli coast. aloha.
