Walker: On shorting, if you're using margin, Brown & Co is the cheapest I know -- well below broker call rate on my amount of debt.

It's not the initial trade (at Brown that's either $5 or $10 for 1-5000 shares) that costs on the shorting, but the margin costs and what it does to your buying power. I find that all that is most contained at Brown.

By the way on options, Brown is the same price, but with lots better service. Waterhouse is higher priced but with lots better service.
