Jim, you're suggesting that Apple might've delayed the launch a bit in order to let CompUSA make a big splash with the iMac? Maybe, but Apple had aging G3 and AIO sales to protect last quarter, plus a need to ramp up and get a concerted advertising effort going. Your speculation that there could be hidden big orders for the iMac could easily be on target. Reading the interview with Ive on the Apple site last night was pretty inspiring. The more I hear about this machine and the more glimpses I catch of it, the more I think people will be buying it as an appliance, a very cool appliance. Ie, it doesn't matter if they are Mac people or PC people or first-time computer users. In today's surging domestic economy (however credit card fueled) $1299 is not that much money. The look makes the buyer justify paying a few hundred more. And of course the technically enabled will realize that this is a monster system due to the G3 chip.

Are you going to Seybold? I guess because Apple didn't get a pop out of it last year I am keying in just on the iMac launch as a trading opp. On the other hand, if we get a rise to $40, then get profit-taking and perhaps the usual options-related slide, I could see us rising again two weeks after iMac launch, with Seybold just as the excuse. Of course Jobs could say anything at Seybold and there could be big news from Apple and/or partners.

Re: CNET, the iMac is the chance for a lot of Apple/Mac bashers to make amends. Or try to look unbiased.

Best,
Marc

Hi Jim..

What is going on today?

The NASDAQ declined more than 45 points and AAPL -2 points. This reflects the weakness of the stock. I have also noticed that AAPL always gives what it gains immediately.
