Chuzzlewit:
I am honored that a man of your caliber thought it necessary to respond to my post. I never pretended to present an analysis of DELL. DELL is beyond the confines of any analytical theory or practice. It just keeps going up and up, of course with some hiccoughs. yes, like any other stock DELL is subject to market gyrations. I, like others, am groping to find points of entry, exit, reentry etc esp with pension plans. This groping, some call as TA while others call as VOODOO practice. Now that I got this out of the way, I am a secret and silent admirer of your posts and Kemble's & many others.

This underscores one of the major problems with technical analysis -- it examines stock prices in a vacuum.

You are very right on this.
I forgot to address the issue of Vacuum factor in TA . I am intensely aware of the fact that TA examines a stock in a vacuum, where external events, beyond the control of the intrinsic value of the stock, are not taken in to consideration. Such events could be , as you are aware of, mergers, political events, wars, sympathy movement in the sector , Clinton-Monica factor (I am using this in a generic sense), plain bad weather conditions, etc.
You might remember that a good TA identified UIS (UNYSIS) as a candidate for appreciation.
