Chuzz, I agree. DELL doesn't need to buy GTW's problems. As for GTW being acquired, I think that realistically the only real candidate to do this is Compaq. I think that IBM is moving away from PCs, and to buy GTW would be a clear reversal of that strategy. HWP, may also be a candidate.

While I think it might help the business of the acquirer, I have to ask the question, why would they buy something that they can duplicate? They're already opening up their own direct shops, but there is a problem with that too.

I have always made the argument that DELL's model could be copied, but as long as it wasn't completely adopted by the imitator, DELL would retain superiority in the market. CPQ seems to be committed to keeping the indirect business, while deploying a direct marketing strategy along side. No matter how you cut it, CPQ, operating this way, will never maintain the margin efficiency that DELL has.

Just my thoughts.
