Let me first say that I own no stock in MTEI. I understand trading was halted, I don't know all the details, but after hearing the news I decided to read a few post on this thread as well as the header. Before I begin let me say that Tod C, who started this thread apparently knows nothing, I repeat NOTHING, about coal mining. I've worked in the mining industry since 1977, and I think that qualifies me as someone who should know something about coal. I was nearly killed in a mining accident two years ago when the roof of the mine collapsed on me, trapping me under several tons of rock. I managed to survive. After several surgeries and 16 months of physical therapy I even managed to walk again. Anyway, I just mentioned this because I do have experience in coal mining. Let me first say this: where did Tod C get his facts from? $10.00 per ton profit? For crying out loud, I know of "VERY SUCCESSFUL COMAPNIES" that are only making pennies and nickles per ton profit. The days of $10.00+ per ton coal are long gone. The last time anyone got rich in the mining industry was back in 1977 when the UMWA (United Mine Workers of America) went on strike for three months. Utility companies were afraid that the future supply of coal was in jeopardy and that the strike would last for a long time. During that three months a lot of small companies signed contracts with the utilities that were pretty sweet, and yes they made a fortune. I personally spoke with one of the most successful independent coal operators in southeast KY today on the phone. Now however, the profits are marked in change. Even the guy I spoke with today wishes he could clear at least a couple of bucks per ton, but he can't. That my friends are the facts. I don't want to hurt anyone, only to help. Any questions you have about coal mining, how it's done, where it's done, profit margins, equipment cost, black lung, labor,(UMWA), whatever, I'll try to answer. I will tell you this, a few months ago I read about Mountain Energy on another thread. When I saw that they were formerly International Casino Cruises Inc. I didn't go any farther. I've known many (too damn many in fact) that got into the coal business thinking they were going to get rich off the "black gold" I've also seen them lose their rear ends" Anyway if I can answer any technical questions I will. Best of luck to everyone, Lonnie A
