Did anyone notice today that Datek made AMZN non-marginable! This is usually reserved for $5 dollar stocks. (anticipation?) This coupled with the unavailability of short shares certainly tells us where the brain trust at Datek believes this thing is headed. Does anyone know of short shares are available anywhere?

Rob, further to your excellent TA remarks, Amzn flirted with the top of the declining trend line on yesterday's sucker rally. But it held. I don't think we'll see 120 again, and after a couple of days 110 will be a distant memory. Based on past behavior of mania stocks my outlook is as follows:

It may hold around 100-110 awaiting AOL's earnings, then drop fast to 90-95 , bounce off the 50-d MA at ~98, hold there for a few days then plunge to 75-80 before the end of the month. Any rallies will not violate the declining trend line.

Sticking my neck out on this prediction ... but that's the way I see it developing based on past manias. (But as we all know, this AMZN beast has been a different animal)

Amzn action: I think AMZN and some of the internet stocks are somewhat insulated from the rest of the markets intraday moves because of the large number of retail owners (small investors). People who trade for a living react quickly to market turns, yet the internets seem to react only to each other as a group. This IMHO is momo players and the few institutional investors and traders who are working these stocks. I believe a lot of the stock is in the hands of small investors who don't follow the market hourly; especially late on a Friday afternoon. If I am correct, AMZN should open lower Monday on a lot of selling pressure as retail buyers are spooked but the point drop in AMZN but also the overall drop in the market. Should be an interesting day.

Best Wishes,

Timoteo

Rob, Thanks for your thoughtful response to my question on using Amzn to short the market as a whole. Do you have any suggestions on where to look for other short sale candidates? I think I have focused so much attention on Amzn to balance my long positions that I don't know where to look now.
