ASDL vs. Cable modems: a URL, & request for experiences/opinions

ZDNet has an interesting article on the head start that cable modems have over the phone company's ASDL services:

zdnet.com

Questions for the thread:

What service would you choose and why, given the choice? And what have your experiences been like with either of these?

We have just relocated to Spokane, WA. Here, US West has just rolled out 256K ASDL service for $110 install/modem fee when you get a year of the service ($40/month for ASDL, $20 a month to them or some other ISP for ASDL capable ISP offerings.) TCI cable says @Home cable modem service should be ready in 6 weeks or so (?) at $39 a month (unknown install and other fees.)

I'm eager to get up and running on one of these, especially since our odd wiring makes a second analog line all but impossible.

Seems like ASDL _may_ be more reliable, but that Cable modem service may be faster and cheaper?

TIA for any comments,

Dave
