Walter -- I'm unaware of what did or didn't take place on SI's Bre-X forum, so I can't comment. Interesting notion, though. I do recall, however, Adrian du Plessis exposing this "Sloan" character last summer. While amusing, it still wasn't enough for me to tune into the Bre-X chat line. By that time, I think I'd been Bre-Xed out. I was wondering, however, if you could compare this Carsonism from April 30 with the worst of what you saw on the Bre-X thread. Again, I think I've posted this one before, so my apologies if I'm being repetitive. In this item, Carson attempts to convince his subscribers that members of the Venezuelan Supreme Court read the chat lines and are not amused at what they see. . . -------------- Carson says judiciary not pleased with chat forum Crystallex International Corporation KRY Shares issued 34,000,000 1998-04-30 close $5.8 Thursday Apr 30 1998 Roy Carson, writing in an April 30 e-mail news dispatch from Caracas, says he recently met with a senior member of the Venezuelan judiciary who is "extremely perturbed" by comments about the court system that have appeared on an Internet chat forum. Mr. Carson, the strongly pro-Crystallex International Irish transplant and journalist, is viewed by many forum participants as a tremendous source of information because of his high-level access to politicians and bureaucrats in Caracas, as well as management at media-shy Crystallex. Justices and government officials have been sent copies of the worst comments. The climate of insults may be counterproductive to any speedy resolution of the Las Cristinas issue, Mr. Carson argues. In addition, he says, "my own honest efforts to earn a living" have been subjected to attack. As a result, Mr. Carson reprinted a letter to Stockhouse boss Jeff Berwick asking his old postings be removed from the record. Crystallex is before the courts in Caracas with a complaint relating to mineral rights at Las Cristinas 4 & 6 deposits. KRY claims title to the concessions through its Inversor Mael subsidiary. (From Stockwatch) --------------- And it's not as though this whacky kind of thing has come to an end. While the original recipients of Carson's e-mails actually paid for the privilege of reading his words, the public is still subjected to all kinds of flaky nonsense on Crystallex chat forums. Slave's hint that KRY's "new map" signifies something is one example, and Avalon continues to churn his recent comment that KRY's gold production target is 150,000 ounces in 1999, from the current 10- or 12,000 ozs. A few months ago, such a comment would have been bounced around and one of the forum's wise men, who would say they'd check out the story, later coming back with a slightly different version, but more or less confirming the statement as true. It then would have become part of the KRY story and challengers to this "truth" would have been flamed or told to do their own due diligence. Such was the pattern on SH that I observed many times. Then, when the fantasy proved a fantasy - or simply didn't take place - the wise men lost none of their credibility and were not asked to justify their past, er, mistake. Some forums aren't very demanding of their statesmen. Now we have Avalon on Silicon Investor saying: "They have a target production of 150K oz by 1999, I believe." Avalon later says his information is solid and that naysayers will be proved wrong and be thusly embarrassed, but he does not offer a whit about where he got this gem of information. His reputation, for what it's worth, is that of a tireless small-stake hobbyist who is on the phone all the time to key players doing his DD (all the while serving clients at the unnamed Toronto trust company). Now Avalon is in an awkward position. If it turns out to be not true, he stands to be accused of being Ground Zero for a hypsterish rumour. But if it turns out that there is a bu
