Dear Robert; Thank you for your quick responses. You wrote, <<Please consider the following three criteria so necessary to understand the Old Testament prophets; 1. Who wrote it. 2.When was it written. 3. To whom was it written. >> Just to clarify were I am coming from I would like to consider the following scriptures written to guide us in the study of the Old Testament Scripture. At the time of writing only the Old Testament had been completed. Of course I would agree that they apply to the new as well because God's Word was in the beginning with God and in his mind has always been complete. 2Pe 1:20-21 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost. 2Ti 3:15-17 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. In the light of these passages I would have the following comments: 1. Who wrote it. I must say that while holy men of God recorded the words, God himself, the Holy Ghost wrote the entire Bible. 2. When was it written? All scripture does have an historical context, however you seem to place the entire emphasis on the history and not the spiritual intent God had for us today. Many scriptures have a double, triple and meaning beyond the time it was written. Because God exists outside of time, the scripture as well is not bound by human understanding of history and time. 3. To whom was it written? It was written to you and I the children of God. It is profitable today for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: Scripture was God breathed to instruct all the children of God at all points in history and written by the Holy one of Israel as we have identified him in the past. I am uncomfortable by what I perceive as a narrow view of scripture. Perhaps you could share scripture to support your historical view? That being said you should feel free to proceed to Daniel if you like. I thus far read your words as a brother, but not as one qualified to teach doctrine or understanding. I do not mean to offend you but I am very conservative about whom I accept to teach me. I am grateful for the opening of the Word of God with you but I am dubious of your need to begin at a certain point without considering the whole counsel of God. If I misunderstand you I am sorry. Perhaps our study of Daniel may clarify these issues for me. In Yeshua's love for you I pray that we may find common ground as we seek the truth of His Word. - DLL
