Good afternoon Jim

In thinking about the Clinton issue I would have thought this would be excellent material for some far out satire of our political system, but to think it is actually materializing stretches credibility to its outer limits. Here's how I see it.

It begins with a frivolous law suit initiated by one Paula Jones, who claims as a result of this shocking sexual encounter with Clinton in which the sight of the gubernatorial penis precipitated some sort of sexual dysfunction. Apparently this problem did not preclude her from selling her nude pictures to various skin magazines. And financially supporting her in this effort is one Richard Mellon Scaiffe. He's the same guy who believes that Clinton is mixed up with Vince Foster's death. He's the guy that claimed theat Foster's death was the Rosetta stone to Whitewater. Well, if you don't succeed at first, try, try again.

So now we have a fishing expedition into Clinton's sex life. Clinton admits having an extramarital affair with one bimbo, but denies all other claims. The judge throws the case against Clinton out, because she says that even if all of the claims made by Jones were proven true, she doesn't have a case according to the law.

But wait, now we must have an ambush. So we wire one Linda Tripp (who hates the Clinton administration because it lacks class) and pretend she is the friend of a White House intern who claims that she may or may not have had a sexual liaison with Clinton. When Clinton denies the allegation enter one Ken Starr, who is salivating at the thought of instilling honor and virtue into public office. So begins an investigation into the sexual appetites and proclivities of the president. This is all in the name of investigating obstruction of justice. But what justice had been obstructed? Clinton had already admitted to an extra-marital affair in his deposition in the Paul Jones case. And what does such an affair have to do with sexual harassment? According to the judge in the case, nothing. And what does that have to do with Whitwater?

And I bet you thought that the Star Chamber was thing of the past?

And what does any of this have to do with "high crimes and misdemeanors"?

As a way of reminding some threadsters of high crimes and misdemeanors, remember the "plumbers" who worked for Nixon and intended to undermine the Constitution. Remember the Iran Contra affair in which elements in the White House ran amuck with their own rump foreign policy?

So I say that this whole Lewinsky affair is a classic example of hyperbole. It is so insane that I suspect that it was actually hatched by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., and accidentally omitted from Breakfast of Champions.

Madness.

TTFN,
CTC

The feeling around Austin and Dell employees..good qtr and beat est...The next 2 qtrs will be like heaven..They are kicking butt..hiring big time.
Jim...I think good numbers from Csco and even Aol should help the market worries..It will cause a real set back if Csco misses..Cnbc was positive on both these guys with split rumors. I think the market will bounce Monday unless the yen slids too much..Those that sold friday...The world didn't come to an end this weekend and now they will have to pay to come back..Its just as scary to miss the rallies as a dip...We went through scarier times this past Oct..and look at us now
