CTC,

Good Post!

I think you captured the essence of what has been happening in Washington. The largely untold story is the news media's willingness to publish unsubstantiated rumors and at the same time present them to us as being true. They have been telling us how we should think and feel about the material they have been reporting. It has been a gross demonstration of the arrogance of the 4th estate. Fortunately, the majority of the American people have blown them off much to their surprise. They will try again and again.

I wonder how much of the deterioration of the quality of the news is due to the consolidation of the news sources in the hands of a few powerful men like Rupert Murdoch, Ted Turner, etc. A few corporations control most of the news sources in this country.

Clinton has pissed off the tobacco and insurance companies big time.
Apparently, he has pissed off religious right as well.

Chuz, Jim Kelley we think alike see my #55495 Now, re DELL DIRECT MODEL I quote Mike Dell: "The Direct system delivers value to the customer all the way from distribution back through manufacturing and design. If you tried to divide Dell up into a manufacturer and a channel, you destroy the companys unique value. Its something completely new that nobody in our industry has ever done before....What WERE ALL ABOUT IS SHRINKING THE TIME AND THE RESOURDCES IT TAKES TO MEET CUSTOMER'S NEEDS (MY CAPS)
Dell notes "When we started I don;t think we knew how far the direct model could take us. we can grow so much faster...There are fewer things to manage, fewer things to go wrong. You dont have the drag effect of taking 50,000 people with you.

My question: can we identify other companies in other industries that have the same efficient direct approach. A Motley Fool analyst has called this "lightness" in the sense of less drag,
One that comes immediately to mind would be Amazon.com but it faces the real competition of Barnes and Noble.
are there any other just in time zero inventory low overhead distributors with the ability to grow like Dell?
thanks
jhg

p.s. as a former journalist let me compliment both Chuzz and Jim kelley on their writing skills. I do not blame the journalists too much in all this Lewinsky stuff;once an insanity takes hold it runs its course. Any journalist not racing to get the latest sniff of sperm would lose his or her job. Now that i think about it this is less like gore vidal and kurt vonnegut and more like terry southern.
