Ron - the Globe reporter seems to be rather typical - in other words someone who has been assigned to do a story on gold - without any background knowledge.

What surprises me is that so many miners are apparently continuing full blast. What I can't figure out is the point at which a marginal producer begins to really run into trouble with forward sales. I think we've got so see some real drama and defaults of some kind. So many producers seem to be walking on water somehow. We haven't seen the kind of curtailment on the supply side that you'd expect. I'd have thought that some of the South African giants would be really hurt by now

It is difficult to argue with your conclusion. I agree that the blue chip averages will be tough to crack unless we have a shifting of assets among investment alternatives-a so called paradigm shift. Now, the real hard part is to attempt to determine when and what will cause that.
