What ASND gets for 800 mil (the telecom business) is worth a lot more to ASND than 800 mil. So whatever ASND gets for the sale of the rest is pure gravy. But, you're right: There's uncertainty in the air. And with the CSCC integration "problems" lingering, many investors have been spooked. Plus, the market -- in general -- is weak. But, IMHO, from a purely 'technology' point of view -- this deal was/is wonderful for ASND. Of course, I can (and sometimes do) change my opinion on a dime. FWIW, I don't own much ASND and actually hope it goes a lot lower -- so I can establish a large position before October 1.

Merrill Lynch is out stating that for accounting purposes, it will be as if ASND never bought the albatrosses. They will be accounted for as operations held for divestiture and will not flow through core earnings from continuing ops.
