thanks for the list. All the companies mentioned have some
sort of CASE tool products but if you narrow Rationals
niche market into "object-oriented/component-based requirement
analysis, system analysis, design and testing" (everything except
the programming development tools) I don't think most of them have directly competing products with Rational. Instead many of these companies have development environments that plug into e.g. Rational Rose and that lack support for requirements planning or testing.

My viewpoint is from Europe, and here Rational is becoming
the "obvious choice" for this kind of tools. Sort of the "Microsoft
of high-level CASE tools" - at least for the stock price that's
hopefully a very good thing :-).
