Back in the foggiest reaches of my mind, it seems that I was told that the GPS service of G* was dropped. Anyone else have this information?

Commercial startup date is a difficult thing to pin down. I think that refers to a full blown global commercial startup. A limited launch should be able to occur at least by May/June. I am sure nobody knows exactly at this point. Let's take a closer look. The sats should be there, in a full 48 bird constellation by January 99. They should all be orbit raised as well by Jan/Feb. No delay there. Gateways are in at Texas, Australia, France, South Korea, and soon in at Smith Falls and Beijing. Look for CDMA guts to hit Argentina and South Africa soon, as well as the three Russian sites. QCOM is shipping 4 per month. Gateways should not be a problem, unless the finalized software is going to take a long time to whip up once many gateways are operating with the beta version. That is a good question, and a possible source of a potential delay. Handsets? An unknown right now, but QCOM makes 600,000 CDMA handsets per month--I can't imagine whipping up 100,000 will be too tough. Perhaps Ericcson will delay to screw their arch rival QCOM--you never know. I will try and get some handset production facts. So, all in all, things should go in a timely fashion. The street expects Zenit delays, explosions, misplacing of 12 sats, etc.---I don't! Three launches in 98 is still quite doable. Fill in any gaps with some Delta II's or Soyuz launches as mentioned in the G* filing and we have a system. It is important now to stay on top of the gateways and handsets. The razor sharp Wall Street aces know very little about any of this--I should say most don't. If it is correct, G* is woefully mispriced.
