Good Post, Wonk.

Actually, what I meant was 2%, and not .2%, as you suggested, but I likely dyslexicized it with the P format, providing the worst of both worlds <g>

But you hit it right on the head. Thanks for that brief refresher for us veteran networking types, and that illustrious intro for those who've never had the pleasure of this mathematical _expedient_ <cough!>.

A Happy Compromise? IVI intros $29.95 for 256 kb/s cable or wireless modem. Requires upstream to be sent over separate telephone line.

Internet Ventures, Inc. Sets $29.95 PeRKIneta Price; Lowest
National Price in Broadband Industry

August 4, 1998

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge
Corporation -- In a move designed to broaden the mass
appeal of its PeRKIneta high-speed Internet service,
Internet Ventures, Inc. will introduce the most
aggressive national pricing structure in the industry.

The announcement was made by Don Janke, president
of Internet Ventures (IVI).

Beginning today, PeRKInet subscribers will receive
download speeds up to 256Kbps for $29.95 per month,
only $8 more than the cost of standard dial-up service
from Internet Ventures affiliates. The price, which
represents a 50 percent saving over previous PeRKInet
pricing, is the lowest in the nation by a high-speed cable
broadband Internet access vendor. Traditionally,
high-speed Internet-over-cable costs have ranged from
$34.95 to $55 per month.

IVI will implement the new pricing policy immediately in
all markets. The company has agreements for current or
future PeRKInet service with Avenue TV Cable in
Ventura, CA; with Cox Cable Humboldt (NYSE: COX) in
Humboldt County, CA; with Davis Communications in
Deer Park Washington; with Sun Country Cable in
Groveland, CA; and with American Telecasting of
Medford (ATEL) in Medford, OR.

"High-speed Internet service is evolutionary, not
revolutionary," said Don Janke, president of Internet
Ventures, Inc. ( perki.net or www.ivn.net/)
"It's important that we provide subscribers the incentive
to see the benefits of the service for themselves. We see
affordable pricing as the key to making PeRKInet
attractive to consumers at large, in the same way that
pricing paved the way for the success of the cellular
telephone industry."

The $29.95 monthly charge includes a $21.95 Internet
access charge, which will be billed to subscribers
directly by IVI's affiliated ISP's. The remaining $8 will be
included on the bills of IVI's cable or wireless partners.
All necessary hardware will be provided by Internet
Ventures at no charge. In addition, IVI will work with its
affiliates and partners to waive setup fees for limited
periods.

"Our background as an established Internet service
provider has been a critical part of our strategy in
introducing, marketing and supporting PeRKInet," said
Janke. "IVI is in a unique position in each of its markets:
Our critical mass of dial-up customers enables us to
affordably offer Internet users a vastly superior product.
We intend to replicate that formula through newbuilds
and acquisitions in the small to mid-size markets
nationally that fit our business model."

PeRKInet uses a Phone Return Cable Internet
technology which combines regular phone lines and
existing cable TV plant to deliver Internet access at
speeds substantially greater than X2 and K56Flex
modems. PeRKInet offers downloads up to 256kbps
downstream for PeRKInet Limited users and up to
10Mbps for commercial users. Upstream data is moved
via a telephone modem at up to 33.6kbps or via an ISDN
terminal adapter at up to 128kbps. Customers receive
data on a PC equipped with a cable modem and an
Ethernet card.

Other companies which offer Internet Access (Internet
Service Providers) are @Home (NASDAQ:ATHM),
Earthlink (NASDAQ:ELNK), Mindspring
(NASDAQ:MSPG), Online System Service
(NASDAQ:WEBB), PSINet (NASDAQ:PSIX) and Rocky
Mountain Internet (NASDAQ:RMII).

Internet Ventures, Inc.'s current operations provide
comprehensive and market-specific Internet services in
Ventura, Humboldt, Del Norte and San Joaquin Counties,
CA; Mesa County, CO; Kootenai County, ID; Jackson
County, OR; and Spokane County, WA.
