Hey everybody, great (and long overdue) Ancor technical brief. Feast your eyes on all of the wiring diagrams at:

ancor.com

Finally gives a detailed explanation of the advantages of their multistaging to cascading and E-ports.

Looks like they are finally trying to sell a few.

Before you know it they might actually be posting third party measurements of throughput and latency across their fabrics in these configurations.

Bill,

<<Sorry to jump right in with the product question after you have put in so much time researching it. It just seems to me that they're not bringing enough to the table. The SAN market is really the only hope. But this is a networking company, not some speculative biotech firm. The money is on the table right now. I wouldn't get my hopes up for a turnaround in 2, 3 or 4 quarters hence.>>

No problem. I'm an Ancor veteran. I've been through the wars, and have the wounds to show for it. <g>

The entire Fibre Channel SAN market has simply taken much longer to develop than most of us thought. I'm hoping that we will finally see it happen in 1999. If so, there should be some significant OEM announcements in 1998. It should be sort of a bandwagon effect, where one company announces a switching strategy, and then the others follow suit.
