>>>As the unofficial HDIE representative of this thread, I hereby declare the political debate over and declare a return to the discussion of HDIE, one of the few stocks on the market that looked good today. <<<

As the unofficial vice-president elect, I'll second the motion and HDIE did one heck of a job. It was the only one on my ticker tape that wasn't bright RED... GO HDIE.... Luckie Sandie

I'll second your motion. I had to surf through so many posts, I thought I was on a major stock thread like Compaq!

Good, Dave, let's re-direct on HDIE and the alarming state of the market. Of course, I hate not getting to play, so I'll put it in parentheses at the bottom.

Correction: Normally political disturbances of a minor nature (like this) may serve as an initial catalyst for a large correction, but not the cause. If the last several thousand Dow points are indeed attributable to people thinking the Clinton policies are driving stock prices, we had better hope that concept washes out or our investments are in real trouble. After all, he's subject to term limits and is gone in January, 2001. We continue to invest the next day! We don't need a "cult of personality" correction.

The reason I'm not in cash now, is that I think the correction is due not to the scandals, but to Asia crises-driven recession fears, which I believe are very real, but quite overblown both on the net and in the regular media. In fact, I expect this situation to begin to clear up as early as tomorrow. HDIE has held up impressively through this, and may begin to benefit from it's recent good news as early as tomorrow. I almost reduced my RNTK position to buy more, but I don't want to engage in unnecessary churning (RNTK will also have it's day).

OK. My turn. Then we can call it off: (((((((((((William the Bastard is nothing if not a national and international embarrassment. The day after he leaves office, he'll become known as "the throwaway President", and then quickly be forgotten. IMO the 25% of the adult public who supported him in '96 should ideally be taught 2 lessons that will hopefully prevent them from making a mega-mistake in the future:

Lesson #1: It DOES matter who we elect President whether we choose to believe it during peace and prosperity or not.

Lesson #2: They aren't ALL CROOKS, anymore than all lawyers are sleezebags, nor all entrepreneurs tax cheats and petty thieves.

In order to teach these lessons cheaply and easily, I would favor diverting the entire annual budget of the Commerce Department (starving kids my ass!) to Judge Starr, and directing him to take his best possible shot. Maybe we won't have to wait until Jaunary, 2001.)))))))))))

AHH! That felt good!

Happy (HDIE) investing.
