NEON is a smaller competitor, but getting larger.
NEON made 11.4 mill Q298 and BEAS made 56 million last quarter.

Some of BEAS biggest competitors are IBM, Inprise, and IONA. To a
much smaller extent at this time is also MSFT, thus would explain BEAS' ability to achieve dramatic revenue growth! There are many
areas that BEAS is into right now that NEON isn't.

from neonsoft.com

..develops and markets the leading solution for Enterprise
Application Integration (EAI). The NEON product suite provides a
comprehensive platform for EAI by integrating today's packaged applications, legacy applications, and web-based applications on disparate platforms and systems across the business enterprise.
NEON enables companies to preserve their existing investments in legacy systems while incorporating new technologies and enables companies to manage their enterprise-data sharing needs based on
business rules and practices.

Middleware is a hot market right now:
news.com

"Worldwide middleware revenue will top
$7 billion by 2002, according to a recent
report by International Data
Corporation.

IDC's Middleware 1998 Worldwide
Markets and Trends report states that in
all, 1997 was an "outstanding year for the
middleware markets." The combined
middleware markets grew 28 percent to
$1.716 billion, despite the worldwide sales
drag put on middleware products by the
Year 2000 bug, European currency
conversion, and the Asia-Pacific
economic downturn, according to the
study.

The study also found that consumption is
clearly the highest in multiuser UNIX
operating environments, reaching $692.2
million, or 40.3 percent in 1997,
compared to 33.4 percent in 1996. "

This shows NT has a big battle in this area.
Microsoft and Middleware means:
CORBA vs COM+
MS JAVA vs Sun Java
NT vs Unix

Re: BEAS and NEON Competitors?

NEON's primary product (NeoNet) is basically a 'message broker'. It's middleware without an integrated transport. A 'message broker' can be extremely useful in terms of application integration, but it must be used in conjunction with a message transport product.

NEON is indirectly a competitor due to the recent partnership with IBM. MQ Series will now support NeoNet as its message broker.
