Lithium technology is beginning to close some serious ground on Valence. I did consider moving them along side Valence (in my ranking originally presented on the lithium polymer thread now at the ULBI thread) and will move them above VLNC if they can get their financing. Although VLNC is almost as insolvent as LITH, it has a little more cash/financing. A strategic alliance between a liquid and illiquid U.S. competitors is not unlikely and would catapult them above VLNC.

I believe a further evolution of cell phones will be enabled by flexible lithium polymer:

A flexible battery enables the communication devices to be placed anywhere on the person--battery placement even possible within the strap of a wristwatch cell phone.

Thin Film Lead Acid Batteries:

Most Likely replacement for current inigition batteries (for combustion engines) For performance reasons other than Whr/kg and Whr/l I think this will trump any LI-polymer solution but only in this particular market. (This isn't too relevant for battery producers wexclusively focused on consumer electronics but is a significant negative for Delphi).
