3CB Joe and all: will COMS be a market leader in cable modems? FWIW, I was considering upgrading from 28.8 to V90 after my local cable company, (Videotron of Canada) told me 2 months ago that my area MIGHT only have cable modem service within a year or two . When I called again 2 days ago I was told that the service will be available later this month (Videotron of Canada - uses Motorola cable modems),and the decision to pass on V90 was obvious. Why anyone would even consider upgrading their modem for a marginal 30-50% increase in speed when they could upgrade for a 10,000+% increase and have the added benefit of freeing up a phone line is beyond me. My guess is that within a year most of the residents of Montreal will have this service available. IMHO based on the rapid implementation in Montreal, modem (and adsl)technologys will scoop up market share much sooner than later , and conventional modem technology will be toast much sooner than anticipated. Is COMS well positioned for this reality or will they be stocked with huge inventories of obsolete technology? What companies are currently benefiting the most from this shift to cable and adsl?
