Hello again Bob,

I do have to respectfully disagree with one thing. I think there has been much growth in the world. There is still plenty of abuse going on, that is clearly undeniable. However, there is no literal slavery, and we recognize the rights of all people, even if we dont always act on those beliefs.
There has always been war and genocide. There have always been starving people. Hopefully that will change. The occurence of starving and abuse is much lower than what it was historically.
It used to be that that only landowners and nobility had rights and regular food. The percentage of landowners and nobility as a toltal of the population was absolutely tiny.

Less than 40 years ago, even in this country which is one of the most progressive, all people did not enjoy the same basic fundamental rights. 40years,in the course of humanity is a mere speck of time.
We are now cognizant of the rights to pursue equality of all people, regardless of race, religion, or sex. We dont always act as if we cognizant of it, but the very act of acknowledging it, is a postive sign of growth that wasnt evident a very short period of time ago.

The more intesting question(to me) isnt if we are growing(because i firmly believe we are) but Why? I think htere is a growth of spirituality that is happening, slowly but surely. I think there are many positive things happening and many reason for them. Some of that attributable to organized religion, some not.

Mark

Bob, I agree with you. Part of your post indicated that someone was diasgreeing with you ~

"! IMO your statement that the amount of abuse in the world is less now than in earlier times is not based on fact. There are tremendous abuses in the world in what we deem civilized societies."

I know we should include war as the supreme abuse, incl civilians raped and murdered. I saw a documentary that said tens of thousands of German girls were raped and mauled by the Russian soldiers when they overcame Berlin during the closing days of the war.
Also, more people have been killed in this century by war that all of the people ever killed since man began to war. Think about that! We come out as the bloodiest generation since since records began to be kept.
