I do think it's bad, but I don't think this in particular has anything to do with Microsoft, or the stock price, or whatever. I understand the perspective that most people will not be affected by this. But when you are talking about crimes, "most" doesn't cut it. And I do believe that this program may enable other sorts of crimes-- for example, the ex-boyfriend monitoring his girlfriends email, or the employee snooping on his co-workers. A tool that makes things easier increases usage.

you seem to post well thought out beliefs rather than an endless stream of spin.

Oh dear, I can't resist another quick drive-by shooting. As someone who was relatively agnostic about Microsoft till I started following them a couple years ago (well, really, until I started enjoying the integrity and uniformity of the Windows experience for myself), "endless stream of spin" seems quite an ironic insult to throw. Nobody spins it better that Microsoft. We're all a bunch of amateur pikers by comparison.

Cheers, Dan.

Jackson also told Microsoft that it must make key portions of its operating system source code available to DOJ and state officials for analysis by technical
experts.
.....

Microsoft lost its request that any technical experts be prohibited from consulting or working on other operating system technologies for up to 18 months
following the trial, which is set to begin Sept. 8.
