One of Malkiel's major theses was that the market is efficient, and stock picking can't be done. You can't tell me you're a Lynch/Buffett disciple at the same time you're a Malkiel disciple. Arch Crawford is a market-timer who uses primarily technical analysis and astrology. He has beaten the market for the last 15 years or so, a period of low volatility that has been extremely nonconducive to market-timing.
