I know Mr. Palkhival and have had several opportunities to meet him ever since i was 10 years old due to my brother being an income tax attorney and Mr. Palkhivala having the most referred books on the subject. But I must add that Mr. Palkhivala is from the old school. And we need new thinking. Cant afford to be tied to the past forever. If you cannot have a Uniform Civil Code, then you dont have and will never have one country. Just let the states have their own laws and pay the Central Govt. for Defence. Then we know what will happen (Use USA for precedence). Laws will be enacted at the Centre (Indian Spelling) to control Commerce, Civil Rights, Interstate disputes between states and people of the states. Pretty soon you wont be able to tell the difference and you will have basically a single nation. If not, I would like to propose seperate laws for Hundus, Suni Muslims, Muslims#2, Muslims #3.....n (where n tends to infinity) Catholics, Protestants, and 0-n other Christians, Athiests, Agnostics, other relegious that we dont know about....... And of course lets not forget Gujratis, Maharashtrians, Jains, Punjabis, Sikhs (lets do beter - give them their own country), UP-ites, etc. etc. Oh lets not forget Sindhis who shoudl also be given a state (or country) promsied when Gandhi, Nehru, Jinah et al decided to seperate BHARAT into 2 countries and promised land and support for displaced refugees. Sorry about the rambling. Its just like India. Cant make up its mind on what to do and just keeps rambling on.
