Ibexx,>>>My "thoughts" were mostly based upon intuition whereas yours were derived from knowledge and experience. Thus I am converted--easily.<<<

You are real easy. But, I don't think you need a phd to feel that Merced is to IA64 as Windows 3.0 was to WIMP. The MAC was easier to use and more stable. Bill Gates must have known that, but 3.0 was launched anyway - but Windows 3.1 came on to erase any short comings.

Merced may, arguably, not match up, in every aspect of performance, to Alpha or other 64 bit chips, but McKinley will erase that difference. The generation after McKinley will, hopefully, wipeout the competition altogether just as Windows 95 just about finished off Apple as a serious competitor.

I kind of doubt that Craig Barrett is the kind of CEO that makes up a roadmap and then barrels down the road without using it.

Keeping the faith,

Mary
