Dale, thanks for the article about Intel and copper. I agree with this strategy from the article:

Historically,
Intel has introduced a new process
technology on an existing product, but
then quickly moved to use it on more
cutting-edge chips.


Introduce just one major variable at a time. Then, if things go very wrong, you don't have to look into two different major changes (one technology, one chip architecture/design) to shoot the problems. I would hope Intel could afford the luxury of "testing" copper on a known 32 bit chip, say a Xeon, year 2000 variety.
