I suppose that makes sense if your time period is 24 months.

By mid 2000 SAP will be poised to sell a tremendous amount of software again. Until then, the going just gets rougher. They'll continue to sell consulting because NO COMPANY will let its good consultants walk out the door between now and 3/1/2000, and there are plenty of projects to complete between now and then.

In 2000 you have resumption of many sizeable major corporate IT overhauls and availability of staff and budget, previously curtailed by Y2K preparations. That is a lot of money headed at new software and the hardware to run it, but not until then.

SAP's next great quarter might be Q3 2000. By then IS executives will have digested the effect of Y2K and will have had a quarter to replan their year, obtain approval to continue their major projects and gotten their funding again. IS execs won't walk into 2000 with plans in concrete and money on 1/1/2000. It happens slower at that level and in the case of Y2K, they won't be kicking off new projects early that year. They'll hold resources close to their vests just in case it really does get ugly. The NEW projects will really pick back up again in late Q2, early Q3.

The bull will run again, and faster than ever before, but not until the tech sector comes back online in early to mid 2000. Til then it's downtime. The tech sector IS THE MARKET!

BTW, not the best time to become one of the new apps sales reps all these companies are adding. Man, that's a tough quota to hit.
