Along the same lines, Soundview Financial Group analyst Tom Cal said that there is a tightening of some disk drive products in the distribution channel. (complements of SF TRADER on the ADPT thread):

Also, I spoke with John (didn't catch last name) in IR at RDRT this morning, and while he was reluctant to flat out confirm that they are seeing an increase in demand I would describe his demeanor as cautiously optimistic re: an improving environment. I asked re: the status of quals @ WDC, SEG, and others and received the party line that they will not pre-announce when they expect to complete new qualifications. However, they will continue to announce them when they occur.

Clearly, the Bloomberg Article, this Reuters one, and the article from the Asia Biz News indicate the the much anticipated turnaround for DD makers and their associated share prices may be at hand. Look for similar releases / articles to appear in the next few weeks. I can speak first hand to semiconductor sales and specifically the DRAM market, and there has been a significant price increase in the spot market and even a tightening of supply on certain configurations (64 MEG Synch / PC100). I believe this is being driven not only by particular suppliers exiting (TI , Siemens), but by an INCREASE IN DEMAND in the PC sector.

All I can say is it couldn't have happened at a better time, as I was only hanging on to my substantial RDRT position by a very very thin thread.
