I don't think it's a weird response at all.

If I'm a company that has chosen BAANF or PSFT as my ERP software why would I want to use an SAP solution? Why do you think SAP's entry into the space, even though they don't really have a credible solution yet, would motivate non-SAP users to say, "Gee, I'd better wait to buy MANU or ITWO software becuase in two years SAP might come up with a credible solution that will integrate with my Peoplesoft software."

I think the slowdown in MANU and ITWO is Y2K related, not SAP related, because there are plenty of non-SAP loyal companies out there.

"SAP's entry into SCM is reminiscent of IBM entering personal computer market."

Now this is a weird response - didn't IBM INVENT the PC? Moreover, Dell, Gateway, and Compaq haven't done too badly since then.
