Well, the $16.99 rate plan from Sprint PCS was just too good to pass up. I signed up the day after reading about it here on the thread (who posted that, by the way?) and my QCP-1920 arrived last night. It's not pink, but it seems pretty cool to me! I made my first call this morning from the customary traffic jam on the I-805 in the "Golden Triangle" here in SD. It works and sounds great.

The rate plan is a really great deal, $16.99/month includes 100 minutes (anytime); this is cheaper than any analog cellular monthly plan in SD, let alone the GSM service from Pac Bell. It also comes with Caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, and three-way calling. Out of curiosity I called Pac Bell and asked how much it would cost to add just those services to my POTS, and it was $12.95/month plus about $40 for the caller ID hardware. Sprint is going to do a ton of business with this plan.

Two minor complaints so far. First, my office in the Fairbanks Ranch/ Rancho Santa Fe area is not yet in the coverage area; I don't really care that much, because I actually got it for my wife to use. Second, the leather case covers up the Qualcomm logo on the phone!

By the way, this is our first wireless phone, and is part of my personal effort to pull myself out of the relative technological obsolescence I had slipped into in recent years. We also recently got cable modem service from At Home. Soon I may be able to pull the plug on Pac Bell altogether! Have a great weekend, everyone--I'll be busy reading my new phone's owner's manual...and trying to get my 1997 Form 1040 done before the extension deadline on the 15th.
