I'll chime in here as well--since we are all using computers, this is all on-topic. My registry(and more) has been corrupted 4 times in the past 2 years, every time requiring that I wipe the hard drive clean and start fresh. I had a UPS on all that time, plus phone cords surge protected etc. I finally invested in a really good UPS that had line power stabilization. Wow--what a difference. I see now how often I was getting spikes and drops in power(they claim these are most responsible for damage). I am in the boonies, so power is bad anyway, but my UPS is triggered at least 3 times a day, and many more during high A/C-use periods. Since the new UPS, not a single problem. I will also throw in a word about backup. I was saved all 4 times I lost everything by a fresh Jaz drive backup. It's worth the time and cost.

Drew & Surfer Mike:

Thanks for the useful info on UPS. I had seen the phrase before and wondered why anyone would want to attach a package delivery system to their computer.
