gregor,

I'm in 2 of those traps now. SEA and gold. Don't really feel all that bad about SEA, but gold -- got some juniors that have been really cut to pieces.

Hope I'm not an alarmist, but I think the bear may have arrived already. Been buying Oct and January puts.

P.S. See PM.

the russell has been in a bear market for years. the valuations on the stocks have not this low in twenty-five years. And I LOVE the dividend yields. In the olden days you bought stocks for dividends.
The way to play the russell is the way they bought stocks back in the old bear market days: buy a chunk cheap and press "dividend reinvest" button. Let market churn. Accumulate.
Or buy a closed-end convertibles fund and reinvest the dividend.

maybe my view from california is different- most of the state has been in double-digit unemployment since the cold war ended. The incredibly low interest rates are helping economic growth here, and businesses are moving here from Asia. Cal is the eighth largest economy in the world- so-- it's hard to be TOO bearish with this much money looking for a home and interest rates so low.
