ATI wins General Instrument chip contract

NEW YORK, Aug 24 (Reuters) - ATI Technologies Inc (Tse:ATY) , a graphics and media company, said Monday it was selected by digital cable systems firm General Instrument Corp (Nyse:GIC) to provide graphics chips for General Instrument digital cable set-top boxes.

Under the deal, General Instrument will buy Toronto-based ATI's RAGE graphics chips for use in its DCT-5000+ advanced interactive digital set-tops.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The set-top boxes allow users to simultaneously watch TV and surf the Internet or watch TV and talk on the phone.
